Self-levelling mortars rely on their own weight to form a flat, smooth and solid base on the substrate, allowing other materials to be laid or bonded, while achieving large, efficient areas of construction. Therefore, high fluidity is a very important characteristic of a mortar self-leveling mortar. It must also have a certain degree of water retention and bonding strength, no percolation and segregation, and be adiabatic and low temperature.
General self-leveling mortar requires good fluidity, but the actual cement slurry flow is usually only 10-12cm; cellulose ether is the main ready-mixed mortar additive, although the amount added is very low, it can significantly improve the mortar performance, which can improve the mortar consistency, workability, bonding performance and water retention performance. It has a very important role in the field of ready-mixed mortar.
1 Fluidity
Cellulose ether has a significant effect on the water retention, consistency and workability of mortar. Especially as a self-leveling mortar, fluidity is one of the main indicators to evaluate the self-leveling performance. The fluidity of mortar can be adjusted by changing the amount of cellulose ether under the premise of ensuring the normal composition of mortar. Too high content will reduce the fluidity of mortar, therefore, the amount of cellulose ether should be controlled within a reasonable range.
2 Water retention
Water retaining mortar is an important indicator of the stability of the internal components of cement mortar. In order to make the gel material fully hydrated reaction, a reasonable amount of cellulose ether can be used for a longer period of time to keep the water in the mortar. Generally, as the amount of cellulose ether increases, the water retention of the mortar also increases. In addition, the viscosity of the cellulose ether has a large effect on the water retention of the mortar; the higher the viscosity, the better the water retention.
3 Setting time
Cellulose ether has a blocking effect on the mortar. With the increase of cellulose ether content, the setting time of mortar will be prolonged. And with high content of cellulose ether, the early compound hydration hysteresis effect of cement is more obvious.
4 Flexural strength and compressive strength
Generally speaking, strength is one of the important evaluation criteria of cementitious cementitious material curing mix. The compressive strength and flexural strength of mortar will be reduced when the content of cellulose ether increases.
